A Word of Thanks & A Game

I have been busy with yard work and gardening today. I am now getting ready to tidy up the house and prepare our Sabbath meal for tomorrow. Before I do, I wanted to take just a moment to thank everyone for your kindness with regard to all the happy anniversary wishes, the condolences you shared with my husband and family, as well the encouragement you gave regarding our money troubles. It's such a huge comfort to know that I have friends like you to cheer my day, lending support through your all heart felt comments. Thank you!!

I thought I'd post a fun bible puzzle for you to do with your family tomorrow afternoon. It's a neat way to gather the kids around and get them involved in helping to find all the books of the bible. I must warn you though-- if you've never done this before, it is quite a challenge. Most of the books aren't obvious (highlight or circle them as you go) and you have to look VERY CAREFULLY, but don't get discouraged! :) I will post the answers for you next week.

Once you're done, come back and tell me how you did. I'm curious to know if you think the books were easy or hard to find. Also, let me know how many you found. Have fun!

DIRECTIONS: Find thirty (30) books of the Bible in the paragraph below. Actually, there are 31 if you can find the variant of one Old Testament prophet's name.

There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, "The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight." Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus; there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found. God Bless.

The Cowboy Boots

Anyone who has ever tried to help a child get dressed
can relate to this humorous, fictional story.

Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping
One of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?
He asked for help and she could see why.

Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still
didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second
boot on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the
little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet."
She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any
easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on.
She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on,
this time on the right feet. He then announced, "These aren't my boots."

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face
and scream, "Why didn't you say so?", like she wanted
to. Once again, she struggled to help him pull the
ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had
they gotten the boots off when he said, "They're my
brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em."

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But,
she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to
wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked. "Now, where are your Mittens?"
He said, "I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots."
She will be eligible for parole in three years.
